We could spend a very long time going through various blues guitar riffs, teaching one after the other, in all the different keys. It would take a really long time, and at the end of the day, it probably wouldn’t do you nearly as much good as if you really sat down with a small number of blues licks that you could really relate to and master.
So today’s blues guitar riffs lesson has just three bluesy riffs in it, but take the time to learn them well, and figure out how you can use them in other keys. Keep in mind that you can use a lot of these riffs in genres other than the blues… blues guitar riffs are often very close to the riffs you’ll find in country music, or even rock and metal! A lot of the difference comes from how you play the riff, the tone you’re using on your guitar and amp, the speed, and emphasis that you place on certain notes.
So keep that in mind, and as you learn these blues guitar riffs, try practicing them at a much slower pace initially, then speed them up… change the emphasis to different notes, and finally, start playing with your tone too!
